How to practice Reiki

Preparation of Room before client arrival

How to practice Reiki.  This case study goes through a complete reiki treatment and shows you how to use all the correct hand positions and the feelings that reiki brings to both the therapist and the client.

Before my client arrived, I made it priority that I have ensured that my sign into my treatment room is on do not disturb, I made sure that my couch and treatment room including all surfaces and floors are disinfected and clean as this is for health and safety purposes of the work placement.

Setting the scene

reiki therapy room

I have made it a priority that the room was of the right temperature as it was a hot day So I closed the blinds a little, making sure there was still enough light for my client to fill out any necessary information on the client questionnaire record sheet, as I opened a window to help it cool down a little, so that the environment was comfortable for my client and myself to be in when she arrives. Having then cleansed the room with a smudge sage stick, to eliminate any negative energies that may have accumulated previously to encourage positive energies to build up, I then turned on my Himalayan salt lamp.

This helps to create a calming but relaxing environment and ambient glow to the room. This will help with my client to feel relaxed and not anxious, as I am aware that this will be her first reiki treatment. I will be covering all the Reiki Hand Positions.

Electric Devices

Switching off my mobile phone and any other devices nearby is important so there are no outside interruption.

Preparation for myself before treatment to commence

Whilst I have created the right conditions for the treatment to be performed on my client, I now must prepare myself and I do so by sitting quietly on my chair both feet firmly on the ground as I take a few deep breathes doing my breathing techniques as I clear away any negative energies or issues that may be present.

Grounding

Whilst concentrating on the soft relaxing music playing in the back ground I now say an opening prayer of protection to ask for my guides to enter to help me proceed during my reiki treatment to protect myself and my client and to place love light and protection all around the room to help lift the energies up.

I then do a grounding technique of visualising roots growing beneath my feet into mother earth imagining I’m a tree letting the roots sink deep into earth through the layers of soil and rock into the hot molten centre and into the heart of the core, then I stay focused and bring myself back from visualisation.

Centered

I am now centred and grounded ready for my clients treatment to proceed once they arrive, I then remove all my jewelry. For health and safety reasons as not to catch or scratch or cut my client.

On arrival I greeted my client with a smile, her body language seemed a little tense as she returned a smile back. I asked her how she was feeling about having her treatment, as she replied that she was feeling nervous and not knowing what to expect. As this is the first time she has been to have a reiki treatment as this is all new to her.

I offered my client a glass of water to help keep her hydrated as it was hot outside and asked her to take a seat, I make general conversation with her to make her feel at ease to which I notice that she seemed more relaxed within her body language as we spoke.

Explaining Reiki to a new Client

writing consultation card

I explained to my client that we would have to fill out a questionnaire consultation record sheet together so we both can go through any previous medical history of health problems past or present that my client may have experienced to date. As I gather the information from my client, I ask her what it is that she is hoping to achieve from the treatment today and to rate their stress levels on a scale of 1 to 4, with 1 being the lowest and 4 being the highest. At this stage I also ask my client if they have concerns about the treatment or if they have any questions they are wanting to ask in general.

Client questionnaire

Requesting the client to sign and date this questionnaire once completed is important before any treatment can commence, as this is to verify my clients consent and shows that my client is happy to proceed with any treatment given by myself as a therapist. It also ensures that the information during our consultation I have given is of their expectations and they have understood the information given to them by myself.

Covering clients expectations

I shall be giving my client information for the aftercare and for the healing process to them to bear in mind what they are likely to experience after their treatment, so as a therapist I ,am safe guarding as I have the relevant information written on record that is there for future reference to refer back to if need be.

Confidentiality

This questionnaire and treatment card once signed  will be filed and locked away, in a secure place for my clients confidentiality. Each time my client has more treatments in the near future, their circumstances or health needs may change, as regards to what it is they want from the next treatment I will then ask that they  fill out a new questionnaire treatment sheet and sign and date each time as above.

Brief background of my client

My client is a full-time mother to two young children and has suffered previously with anxiety and to date still suffers. During  both pregnancies she has to undergo two cesarean sections with both births causing scar tissue which become painful for my client. The main health problems are as follows:-

  • Cesarean Sections
  • Polycystic Ovary Syndrome
  • Breast Cysts
  • Asthmatic
  • Eczema
  • Low energy due to demands of young baby & breast feeding
  • Exhaustion
  • Anxiety

Establishing my Clients wish from a reiki treatment

  • Restore energy
  • Relieve Anxiety
  • Balance Physical & Mental Emotional state

She feels the Reiki treatment would help ease the burden of her anxieties she has at present as she finds things for her get to over whelming at times when she’s feeling low. It is important to her that she can have mental focus as well as feeling the benefits of feeling uplifted also by this treatment.

Explaining How Reiki works and how the Energy Flows from Me to her

Having now explained in detail and in length what reiki is all about and what the treatment involves including possible feelings or sensations that may occur during a reiki treatment, I also explain  how they would possibly be feeling afterwards.

I explain that I am used as a channel, to receive life force energies from being attuned to reiki myself, as it flows freely through myself to where ever it is needed in the clients body. I do this through different hand positions placed on my clients body, over organs and glands. This in turn directly gives healing to the client as it is designed to channel energies to all of these areas, and where needed the most.

Benefits to Therapist Offering Reiki

If the therapist whom is offering reiki  is also  in need of healing,  they will receive some during the treatment. As reiki helps to assist us to balance our physical and mental state of wellbeing.

Feeling Hot or Cold – meanings

During my client’s treatment they may feel sensations of either becoming hot within themselves or on a certain part of their body as this is indicating that the energy is needed in this area. Or a coolness on a certain parts of their body which indicates an emotional or spiritual blockage which will later require work.

What Tingling Sensations – meaning

By working on their chakra system to unblock and rebalance these they may also experience tingling sensations which shows signs of inflammation in a specific area, as this can also pinpoint areas of repressed anger felt by the client if no physical pain has been felt by the client prior to treatment.

Dull Ache or pains – meaning

If they experience a dull pain then this generally occurs when reiki is being given near an old physical injury or scar tissue that may need extra healing from any previous operation that  client may have had. A sharp pain is an indicator of too much energy being concentrated in one particular area on the body causing them to have an imbalance within. If this happens this is an indication to the therapist that this area needs working on to realise the energy built up.

Feelings often experienced after Reiki Treatment

I made them aware of how they would be feeling after their treatment has come to an end, e.g. Lightheaded, they may experience a headache, or feel cold and have Goosebumps or feeling hot and flushed, a total feeling of a weight being lifted or feeling totally relaxed.

Toxin Release

Client may need to flush toxins out through going to the toilet more. This is all a normal part of the healing process and advice to drink plenty of water afterwards is necessary to help with the release of toxins.

Some final preparations for client to do before reiki treatment commences

  • Remove Jewelry, watches, etc…
  • Remove Shoes
  • Loosen tight clothing

Aromatherapy Oils

aromatherapy oils

I then mixed some aromatherapy oil in my oil burner.  As a qualified holistic therapist in aromatherapy I am aware how essential oils can affect mood. To help with up-liftment and balancing of the emotional and mental and physical state of being, I choose the following 3 oils.

  1. mandarin oil for (upliftment)
  2. rose oil for the (anxiety)
  3. jasmine oil for the (fatigue)

Getting client settled on a Reiki Couch

Whilst playing some soft relaxing music in the back ground to lighten the mood and help relax my client further, I place a pillow at the head of the couch for my client to feel comfortable whilst laying on down as this takes any strain away supporting her head and neck. Having also ensured the couch is the correct height for me to work from so that I do not suffer from back strain.

Support

I have another pillow that is going to be placed underneath my clients knees to help support her during the treatment taking away any pressure or weight from her lower back. I ask my client to gently get onto the couch laying on her back with her arms straight by her side, and her legs uncrossed as this is necessary as this helps the flow of reiki going to where it is needed. I then ask that she relax and take some slow deep breathes to help ease her into the treatment before we begin.

Whilst my client is doing this I go and wash my hands to drain away any negative energy placing my fingertips downwards letting the water run between my fingers. I then dry them on a clean towel. I return to the treatment room and at the head of the couch where my clients head is I draw in on connecting with my spirit guides as I use the 3 hand positions required to assist before opening to reiki.

Hand Positions & Timing

1st position of kanji 1

As I place my fingertips together and interlock the other fingers on both hands to assist and bring in the spiritual energy. I hold this position for 30 seconds whilst I  take slow deep breaths to help with my giving of reiki.

2nd position of kanji 2

I place the tips of my middle fingers together and interlock the other fingers of both hands as this helps to bring spirit guides closer as it increases the power available to me. I hold this position again for 30 seconds as I carry on with my slow deep breathing to help open me up and stay relaxed.

 3rd position of kanji 3

I interlock my fingers so that I can move my palms together my fingers are between my palms as this assists with inner knowing and guidance needed during reiki.  I may want to know the real cause of a problem being experienced by the client.  I close my eyes and relax and take a few deep breathes and ask my subconscious for what it is I want information on as I wait for an answer.

Having now performed the above Kanji positions I now feel ready to proceed; my client is looking comfortable and relaxed within the whole body.as I check her breathing is slow and soft.

I now ask for the guidance with reiki for healing on all levels for my client mentally, emotionally, spiritually and physically.

The reiki treatment

Standing to the side of my client  I rub my palms of my hands together to help generate the energies to flow and help warm my hands.
I can feel that my hands are starting to tingle and this indicates to me that the energies are flowing,

1st hand position front of the client’s head ¬-hands over the client’s eyes

women having reiki healing treatment

As I stand behind my client at the top of the bed where her head is I place my hands palm down over her eyes so that my thumbs meet in the middle of their forehead, as this is the first-hand position to engage in reiki. lightly with my fingers closed and cupped around the shape of my client’s face, as this is to ensure that the energies are not scattered.

As I say to my guides reiki on, I feel my hands are warm and tingly whilst doing this as I feel the energies flow I become warm within myself, I observe and tune in to my client on their breathing and their physical state. To make sure that they are alright and not feeling uncomfortable whilst I’m giving reiki.

This will physically help my client with stress levels she is experiencing in hope of reducing them and help aid in better concentration, as this is what my client’s needs are at this present time, to stay focused, I stayed on this position for a good 5 minutes as the tingly calmed down as this is showing me that enough reiki has been given and not to over work it as it may cause an imbalance ,as this is what we don’t want happening, I slowly remove my hands from this position and gently transition to the next area.

2nd hand position on my client’s head on the temples

I am still stood behind my client at the head of the couch I carry on with my breathing deeply and slowly to stay connected and focused upon my client to see how she is responding so far to the treatment, if there is any physical evidence she may be feeling anything whilst I did the 1st hand position, my client still looked in a deep calm relaxed state as her eyes are closed, I sense that my client may be receiving the energies well.as I also feel calm and relaxed whilst giving reiki.

I slowly placed hands over either side of my clients temples fingers faced downward as my thumbs meet in the middle of my clients forehead as this covers the area of the 3rd eye chakra, as I say to my guides reiki on.  I  can then feel my hands tingle again and warm up as I feel the heat coming from my hands.

This shows me that this area is receiving the reiki it needs in order to elevate the problems my client is facing, at this time, as the physical benefits are good at relieving emotional stress and feeling of mental fatigue as this will help my client with feeling of calm as it helps to rebalance herself mentally, physically ,and emotionally helping my client getting a better night’s sleep thus sharpening her focus and concentration towards life she hopes to achieve.

I work on this area again for a good 5 minutes as the tingling diminishes. I slowly remove my hands from this position and gently transition again to the next area.

3rd hand position back of the client’s head the brain

Still stood in the same position as previous, as I gently roll my clients head one way as I place my hands slowly underneath my client’s head gently cupping the shape of their head palms face up fingers together as always, as I say to my guides reiki on, still focusing that my client is feeling ok checking for breathing and any physical signs of discomfort.

My hands are still warm as I feel the heat radiating from them and the feeling of electric pulses in my fingers also, as I feel the energies flowing through I feel very hot and clammy within myself.  I now assess my clients body language to see how they are responding on this area.

I see that my client was frowning. Sensing that she may be feeling sensations or that she feels uncomfortable with how she feels on this area being worked on, as the energies felt very intense, I  now worked on this area for 5 minutes approximately.

Shift in Energy – Feeling a shift in her energies of uneasiness, I withdrew from this area but I feel that this area may be reproached in another further treatment another day as I feel this will help with my client to help calm down her busy thoughts of the day ,which may be the cause of stress on my client as she is constantly on the go remembering what she has to do.

She would benefit from as it helps with mental benefits to help also with anxieties. I slowly remove my hands from this position and transition to the next.

4th hand position the throat area

Still in the same position stood behind head of the couch I gently move my hands around to my client’s neck area, cupping my hands over the bottom of my client’s jawline and throat area I am still assessing my client always for a response as my client is now relaxed once again.

As I say to my guides reiki on, I feel a coolness on this area coming from my hands as they tingle the energy doesn’t feel intense like the previous, I feel very cold within myself as I get Goosebumps.

I feel that I need to work on this area as I feel that there may be a lot of built emotions repressed or blocked energies through my client being overwhelmed by her emotions that have built up from the past with her anxieties ,I work on this area for a good 5 minutes.

Slowly I remove my hands from this position and transition to the next as my hands are still tingly I feel very cold still, but I feel that this area needs to be reproached in further treatments in the near future to release the blockage to help my client further with her treatment plan in aid of getting balanced emotionally, physically and mentally.

5th hand position on the heart

I move my position and stand to the side of the couch on the left-hand side to my client gently placing my hands on my client’s heart area just above their breast bone so my fingers of one hand are just touching the palm of the other hand with fingers closed together as always, I am still assessing my client’s reaction at times for a response.

My client is still relaxed and calm, with relaxed body language, As I say to my guides reiki on, I still feel the coolness coming from my hands with sensations of electric pulses running through my fingers.

I proceed with giving reiki again as I feel that my client may be experiencing a blockage within this area as she is not feeling loved or nurtured as she hasn’t found time to have her alone time to pamper herself, love herself, or have quality time with her partner to feel loved.

Her her life at the moment is very routine, putting her needs last to the list. I continue this area for a good 5 minutes to help clear away any negative built up energies but will reproach this area again later, as I slowly move away my hands and transition on to my next move.

6th hand position solar plexus rib cage diaphragm area

reiki treatment

Still standing at the side of my client on my left hand side of her I move down to the rib cage diaphragm area placing my hands just below my clients breast bone so that my hands cover her upper area between her rib cage and her upper abdomen, keeping my fingers together ,checking for her breathing and body language as I assess her response and checking my breathing to.

As I say to my guides reiki on, I felt my hands pulsate and throb with like tingling sensations my hands and fingers wasn’t hot and they wasn’t feeling cool either just normal in-between, I close my eyes as I felt guided to, as I could see colours of red ,yellow and orange being shown in my mind’s eye and felt very calm with this.

Continuing giving reiki and opening my eyes to reassess my client again as I see this area is associated with helping to release any toxins built up as it can help release any hidden fears my client may have about her future.

Once this is released it can help aid relaxation for my client to feel more positive about her current situation. I feel the energies drawing weaker which indicates that enough reiki has been given after 5 minutes I slowly move my hands away to transition to my next area

7th hand position pelvis area sacral

Still at the side of my client to her left, I then move to the abdomen area below the waist as my hands are placed touching the hip bones of my client. Keeping my fingers together once again helps with the flow of energies being past to my client.

Checking my clients body language and breathing to make sure that she is still relaxed and comfortable I notice my hands are warm again as they are heating up, and are feeling very tingly.

I feel my body warming to as I say to my guides reiki on.  I feel that this area is in much need of healing as my client has had previous pain and still is at present today.

This area due to scar tissue from her caesarean procedure, and from my client finding it hard to become pregnant for a number of years previous from experiencing having the polycystic syndrome symptoms.  This area treats any reproductive organs and lower intestines as I feel this may be of benefit to my client’s needs for the near future.

If my client wishes to become pregnant again and has future reiki treatments this should help with the scar tissue to heal if future caesarean sections are performed and hopefully help my client to become pregnant successfully, without any complications.

I hold this position for a good 5 minutes or so as my hands are intense with a warmth feeling and tingling of my hands and fingertips, as I am aware that the reiki is flowing to where it is needed, I then slowly draw away from this area to transition to my next position.

8th hand position knee area

I move slowly down towards my clients knee area still standing to my clients left side, checking that my client is relaxed and comfortable once again as she seems as though she is very relaxed at this moment in time.

I check my breathing as it is slow and deep and relaxed. Placing my hands on each of my clients knees with my fingers closed together I say to my guides Reiki on.

This area feels very cold as I feel a coolness coming from my hands and I feel very cool within myself with Goosebumps. This shows to me that there is an emotional or spiritual blockage that requires unblocking in order for the energies to flow better and not become stagnant, causing my client to become unbalanced which isn’t what we are trying to achieve today.

My client needs this balance in her life emotionally, physically and spiritually and mentally.

I stay in this position for a good 5 minutes until the coolness diminishes which shows me that the energies have shifted and become unblocked, as I feel the energies change, I slowly draw away from this position as I transition to my next area to be worked upon.

9th hand position feet area

I move slowly to the bottom of the couch and slowly place my hands on both of my clients feet, palms faced downwards with all fingers closed together so the energies are not scattered as this helps with grounding my client within the physical mental and spiritual well being.

I still am made aware of my clients breathing as it is relaxed and slow so I say to my guides reiki on.

I feel the coolness running through my body once again and within my fingers as I experience having goose bumps again.  I feel again that my client may be unbalanced within this area.

Emotional Blockage

There seems to be a blockage again, of emotional or spiritual.  I continue to work on this area and feel the energies becoming lighter as the heaviness lifts, and the coolness diminishes for a second time, my hands to start to tingle as well which shows me that reiki is being received by my client.

I keep checking her body language with this to see if my client is still comfortable and she seems in a relaxed calm state.

Slowly drawing away from this position after a good 5 minutes, I visualise for a second with my eyes closed the grounding technique for my client visualising the tree roots growing beneath her feet and spreading deep into mother earth and anchoring deeply.

I  had performed this technique for myself in preparation before I gave the reiki,  in the hope of helping my client to become more grounded and centred.

Ending the Reiki Front Treatment

I slowly make my client aware that the treatment of reiki has come to an end on the front 4 head positions and 4 body positions including the knees (extra position). by gently speaking to her and letting her come around on her own accord.as she comes around looking very chilled and flushed. I ask my client if she is feeling ok?.to which she replied yes that she feels very relaxed and sleepy.

Reiki Back Treatment

How to practice Reiki

Asking my client to gently turn over onto her front so that her back is facing up towards me, I can then use this transition into performing reiki again on the 4 back positions.

I make sure the couch roll is still in place by holding it down to the couch so that it doesn’t fall off and make sure that the pillow is still in place at the top of couch so my client can rest her head taking away any strain or pressure again on the neck and spine area higher up.

Gently I  remove the pillow away from which was placed under my clients knees for support.

As my client turns over and settles down onto her front, I stand at the head of the couch concentrating on my breathing, I make sure my client is comfortable and relaxed once again before I begin.

As I stand at the top of the couch behind my client’s head. I repeat to myself once again, as I ask my guides to draw in close to help me channel the reiki to my client.  I say reiki on.

I check my posture is correct for health and safety reasons, so I am not causing unnecessary damage to my back, standing correctly distributing my weight evenly throughout my body as I perform these positions, I gently rub my hands together to help generate the energies, so they help to flow freely.

As I slowly move to my clients left hand side checking my client is still relaxed with in her body and checking her breathing is relaxed I get ready to place my hands on the first back position .my clients breathing is slow and rhythmic indicating that my client is in a relaxed state.

1st hand position back shoulder area at the top

I place both my hands on the upper area of the shoulders on my clients back, fingers closed tightly to help the energies flow freely I already asked my guides for reiki on.

I start to feel my hands tingle and pulsate and warm up as my whole body went warm  which indicates that this area needs some attention of being worked upon.

My client earlier explained that she finds it hard to balance areas of her life mentally, physically, emotionally and spiritually.

I feel that my client is feeling as though she has a weight on her shoulders at present as this area will help lift away any physical aches or pains that we carry in this area of the body.

Client’s body language changed from being relaxed to tense whilst reiki on this position is being given. This indicates that there may be inflammation built up in this area as tension is built up here over time.  My client hasn’t had any of her alone time to nurture herself as this position is also good for the heart area ,and that there may be some repressed emotions that need to be unblocked to help her move on from her current situation.

Reiki is given for a good 5 minutes as I feel that this area is in much need of it.

2nd hand position on the back-area heart and shoulder blades

I slowly move down to this position on the left-hand side of my client still checking my position and posture, and my clients breathing and body language.

I gently place my hands upon the heart and bottom area of the shoulder blades with each hand on both shoulder blades, as I say to myself and to my guides reiki on.

Ensuring my fingers are closed together in the correct position without placing too much pressure on the area, my hands generate tingling and pulsating sensations which indicates to me there is a blockage or repressed emotion built up here and that this area needs working on physically as there may be an imbalance within.

I begin to channel the reiki, and notice she is very relaxed indicating that my client is comfortable and receiving the reiki well.

This position is good for treating the heart and lung area physically and spiritually helps with the heart chakra which I feel my client may benefit from as she struggles with her asthma.   I am in hope of my client responding well on this area hoping it will help ease this within the respiratory area, so it isn’t a struggle for my client to breathe when her asthma is bad.

In the hope that it will help open my clients heart chakra centre as I feel she needs this to have self-love for herself as she finds it hard to accept this for herself, as she feels she isn’t deserving of this.

I assess my client once again after working on this area again for 5 minutes the tingling and pulsating is still intense, which means to me that the area needs more work at a future appointment. I begin to slowly remove my hands ready to transition to my next position.

3rd hand position on the back-area kidneys lower back area

I move onto this next area still stood at the left hand side of my client I’m checking my posture and the body language and breathing of my client I gently place my hands on the waist with both hands parallel fingers closed I say to my guides reiki on, as I feel my hands tingle and become very warm which indicates that this area is in much need of reiki as its showing that my client is in need of physical healing as she has her old caesarean scars present from previous pregnancies, as she had built up scar tissue which gives her constant physical pain ,so its indicating this area is receiving the reiki to help reduce any inflammation here in this spot in the hope of elevating an future pain, that may occur. And to help with her polycystic syndrome to help with getting pregnant soon, if my client wishes to do so.it will also help lower stress levels that my client is experiencing at present. Which is what my client is wanting to achieve. I hold this position for a good 5 minutes as the energies of reiki are very intense.
I gently start to move my hands away as I transition to my next position.

4th hand position on the back area the sacrum hip area

I gently move slowly down to this area still to the left-hand side of my client, checking all the necessary things posture and breathing and body language. When my client still looks relaxed and calm I say to my guides reiki on.

I place my hands parallel below the waist halfway between the waist and where the legs meet the buttocks my hands are feeling very warm and tingly as this is showing me that the area here being worked on my client is ovaries and uterus and bladder.

This is of importance as this is here to help remove any blocked energies that may be present within this area, so that in the near future it can help with my client to becoming pregnant again if she wishes to do so from experiencing poly cystic ovaries.

5th hand position knee area

I move slowly down towards my clients knee area still standing to my clients left side, checking that my client is relaxed and comfortable once again as she seems as though she is very relaxed at this moment in time.

I check my breathing as it is slow and deep and relaxed. I then place my hands on each of my clients knees with my fingers closed together, and say to my guides reiki on.

This area feels very cold as I feel a coolness coming from my hands and I feel very cool within myself with Goosebumps which shows me that there is an emotional or spiritual blockage that requires unblocking in order for the energies to flow better. I stay in this position for a good 5 minutes until the coolness diminishes which shows me that the energies have shifted and become unblocked, as I feel the energies change, I slowly draw away from this position as I transition to my next area to be worked upon.

6th hand position feet area

I move slowly to the bottom of the couch and slowly place my hands on both of my clients feet, palms faced downwards with all fingers closed together so the energies are not scattered as this helps with grounding my client within the physical mental and spiritual well being.

I am made aware of my clients breathing as it is relaxed and slow, I say to my guides reiki on.

I feel the coolness running through my body once again and within my fingers as I experience having goose bumps again. I feel again that my client may be unbalanced within this area, as there seems to be a blockage of emotional or spiritual.  I continue to work on this area and I feel the energies becoming lighter as the heaviness lifts, and the coolness diminishes for a second time.

My hands to start to tingle as well which shows me that reiki is being received by my client as I keep checking her body language with this to see if my client is still comfortable.

I slowly draw away from this position after a good 5 minutes, and visualise for a second with my eyes closed the grounding technique for my client visualising the tree roots growing beneath her feet and spreading deep into mother earth and anchoring deeply. I performed this for myself in the preparation before I gave the reiki,  in the hope of helping my client to become more grounded. This helps to remove stagnant energies that had been built up over time.

I then thank my guides for helping channel the reiki energies through me for my client to receive which will help her with her health, mentally and physically emotionally and spiritually, as I say a closing prayer within my mind to end the session.

Ending the Reiki Session

I slowly make my client aware that the treatment of reiki has come to an end on the front 4 head positions and 4 body positions including the knees (extra position). by gently speaking to her and letting her come around on her own accord.as she comes around looking very chilled and flushed. I ask my client if she is feeling ok?.to which she replied yes that she feels very relaxed and sleepy.
As I wait for my client to come around fully, I go into the next room to wash and cleanse my hands under the running cold water fingertips facing downwards as this is to help with any negative energies that may have been built up during the reiki session, between myself and client, and to disconnect also.

After care advice

drinking water

I then get a glass of nice ice cold water for my client to gently sip and offer it to her once she has got off the couch safely.

The water will assist and help flush away any toxins that may be present to help with the healing process.

I then ask her to take a seat once she has put on her shoes.

Advice of how the Client may feel after treatment

Some of the things I advise my client about are:-

  •  Energy Levels – They may feel tired or the opposite may apply and they could have a new-found energy or motivation.
  • Temperature: – that they may feel warm within their body or feel the cold more.
  • Toxin elimination – They will go to the toilet more to pass urine as this is the bodies way of eradicating any toxins built up over time.
  • Clarity – They may feel an energy shift if they have had blockages and notice a better mental clarity etc, this is depending on how each person responds to the treatment as not every client is the same as to how they receive the reiki treatment

I ask my client on her feedback to what she was experiencing before during and after the treatment being given,

Client feedback on treatment on a whole

Before the treatment I was feeling quiet tense, stressed and drained mentally and physically. As soon as the treatment commenced I instantly felt very relaxed and within 5 minutes I started to feel warm and tingly sensations as the treatment went on I felt more and more relaxed, as I felt the stress and negative baggage lift away from my being.

Head position Feedback

As reiki was being on my face position and neck area I felt a very strong warm feeling as it was tingling sensation was intense I also felt as though there was an electrical wave between myself and the therapist.

Front position Feedback

Whilst working on the stomach area I felt an overwhelming sensation it felt like I had butterflies in my stomach of nervous tickling energies.

Back body position Feedback

Whilst working on the back area which is a big problem area for me as I suffer from lots of aches and pains, I experienced yet again a very overwhelming intense of warmth accompanied by a throbbing sensation which was pulsating.

Knee and feet area Feedback

I didn’t feel much within this area just felt normal to me as I was still feeling calm and relaxed within my whole body.

Follow up Client feedback – few days later

After the treatment I have felt completely relaxed and weightless. I feel as though I am still being worked upon. I still feel the warmth and the tingling within my body, and I definitely feel like I have gained some energy from this whole experience.

I would like to have further treatments in the near future as I feel I have most definitely benefited from this whole experience and  its exceeded my expectations.

I would definitely recommend to other individuals to seek having reiki as it is a safe therapy to have, with no complications attached to it and is a very uplifting and positive experience to have.

After the client has gone after receiving her treatment I remove the couch roll and disinfected the couch and all work surfaces and clean the floor space again for health and safety reasons of the work placement, I blew out the candles on the oil burner, so they didn’t cause a hazard of catching fire to anything that is nearby.

I switch off the Himalayan salt lamp to save on electricity, and once again use my smudge sage stick to cleanse and release negativity from the room that may have built up during the reiki session. Then switch off the music.
